WHAT NEVER WAS Paula's lyric reflection of لما بدا يتثنى And now that the time has been allowed to pass And now that the time has been allowed to pass It's just his words that linger here With a tone so sly, so insincere With a tone so sly, so insincere We met, oh those eyes, a velvet call to love When we met I was hungry for his call to love It's just his words, poetic hold A myth of love that's growing cold A myth of love that's growing cold It appears from the mist just like a thought inside It appears from the mist just like a thought inside It's just his words, that gray mirage What cannot be, and never was What cannot be, and never was

Joining Sky 07:06
JOINING SKY (Paula Jeanine Bennett) What happens now, so far apart The birds fly at dusk, above the ramparts I see it, I see it, I see it in my mind I will keep it close beside Under a joining sky What happens now, so far away Holding the thread, the rhythm and the sway I feel it, I feel it, I feel it so divine I will keep you close beside Under a joining sky What happens now, so far apart The birds fly at dusk, above the ramparts I see it, I see it, I see it in my mind I will keep it close beside Under a joining sky

LET IT BE, MY HEART Paula's lyric reflection of ياقلبي خلي الحال And if you love me you will let me go Just let it be, let it be my heart And if you love me you will let me go Just let it be, let it be my heart Oh how we tried The Lord knows that we tried But this one was never meant to be Oh how we tried The Lord knows that we tried But darling you were never meant for me

PATH TO THE SOUL Paula's lyric reflection of طالما أشكو I stand by the edge at the outside wall On my way back home Stand by the edge at the outside wall On my way back home But where's the map to the deeper road Where is the path to the soul Where's the one to guide me onward I need a path to the soul I am lost when I reach home The lock, the key, the door I am lost when I reach home The lock, the key, the door How can faith be so elusive Where is the path to the soul Where's the one to guide me onward I need a path to the soul These roads, these stones, this place so silent How did I lose my way These roads, these stones, this place so silent Have others lost their way Where's the map to the deeper road Where is the path to the soul Could the quest be part of the journey I need a path to the soul By surprise the guide appears When I had lost my way Quite by surprise the guide appears When I had lost my way Faith is living, sometimes challenging Finding the path to the soul Finding the road to the faith inside us That's the path to the soul

about

Spanning the diverse cultures of Morocco and the United States, the BARAKA BRIDGE duo explores the rich music and poetry of both countries. Featuring the soaring and soulful voices of PAULA JEANINE BENNETT and MOUNAIM BAINO, enlivened by oud and percussion, BARAKA BRIDGE reflects the musical connection between these two gifted artists.
Paula and Mounaim are the nucleus of BARAKA BRIDGE but hope to explore their material in collaboration with other musicians on global platforms. Richard X Bennett (piano) and George Stathos (clarinet) play on several of these tracks, beginning this process and showing the potential of this fertile material.
Paula's English lyrics are not translations of the songs but poetic reflections, a process often referred to as transcreation. These lyrics allow Paula to sing traditional melodies in her first language while maintaining the emotion of the originals.

BARAKA BRIDGE is guided and co-produced by screenwriter MOHAMED ABARDA.
